Making a toy: Oh Snap!
Team: Claudia Russo, Rafael Poloni and Poonam Patel
Concept explored: Using servo motors, photocells, infrared sensors
Materials used: Breadboard, wires, LEDs, Arduino micro controller, a servo motor, a photocell, infrared sensor, resistors, paper, cardboard (lotsa) tape
Our toy: OH SNAP!
Inspired by an old-school toy, Oh snap! is a fun and thrilling game one can play with a not-so-scary crocodile by physically interacting with it.
How do you play the game?
The objective of the game is to try to not get chomped by Mr. Croc when trying to feed him or take away his food. He’s got pretty strong reflexes.
How we made it:
Ideation and sketches
This was a pretty ambitious project for us considering there were lots of things we had to account for simultaneously and also the first time we were using a buzzer, a motor and an ultrasonic sensor.
Hooking up the circuit:
We did this by first building smaller circuits to see all out interactions were working individually:
Connecting the distance sensor to the buzzer and LEDs.
2. Connecting the servo and photocell and adding it to this circuit.
3. Making a case for the circuit aka Mr. Croc’s body!

And…..
Mr. Croc is ready!
See Oh Snap! in action…
